Some ideas for the January event:
.Rose origami + make-your-own-doll (i.e. stuffed animal) The materials for rose origami would be paper (self-explanatory), and for the doll, it would be stuffing things plus the skin and knitting tools (currently I found out that it’s available thru some internet purchases, or thru “Bear & Co.” in S’pore, which use needle-less method). I predict that 30 mins would be the time to finish a stuffed animal.
.Decorate-your-own-cake Around 200 cakes with decorating materials and disposable utensils will be provided, with a charge on $1 each for students. But there has not been any vendor I found who would agree on staying on the booth (so far I only found a staff working for a bakery, who provides decorating class). If I can’t found any, can maincomms man the booth, instead? Last mooncake sales, we scooped the icecream for the people by ourselves. But if so, those who man the booth need to read cake-decorating book (available) or go for a decorating class (around $50 per people).
.Magic show Most probably, some of my subcomms will be taught some magic tricks of cards or simple things (thru some resources or from the Publicity subcomm whom Boon Earn mentioned yesterday nite) which you will show and teach to passer-bys who want to; unless you know some professional magicians who want to perform for cheap cost, i.e. less than $100 for 6-7 hours (can’t find any yet).
.Balloon-stepping competition Just like what the title suggests, participants’ leg would be tied up with balloon and they will try to step on other people’s balloon while securing their own balloon. Within different balloons, there will be papers with points written on it.
.Stationery marathon The first would be pencil-sharpening competition, followed by 2B pencil bubble shading of particular pattern by selectively shading some bubbles, and cutting the pattern using scissor.
.Math-color game Let say on a board there are words and each alphabet with different colors, e.g.: TREE (X) SUN(+) Then on the other board we will paste those alphabets and the backside with some numbers (only the top of the paper is attached to the board) so that they can blow the paper from the bottom to see the numbers at the back. if the end of the word is with (X) they have to multiply all the numbers to get the answer T(5)R(7)E(3)E(8) so will be 5x7x3x8. so maybe we can fix the time limit to see who can get the most answers.
.Sucker tree The sucker tree is a game in which we provide set of strings, one of which will be attached to a present, but the middle part of strings will be covered by hand. The participants need to pull particular string and see if they get the present.
.Bowling Instead of using urethane bowling ball and maple-wood bowling pins, we will just use tennis ball and tins or thick plastic bottle.
.Dart throw Magnetic darts or those plastic-tip darts (the target would not be of spongy material) would be used. Throw the dart to certain point on the target board to earn points.
.Ring throw Throw ring (very small hula-hoop) to a standing pole, bottle or something like that to earn points.
.Bucket toss A set of buckets will be arranged in a line, and participants (standing in front of the “queueing” buckets need to throw ball into the buckets from the closest to the farthest. Points would be cumulative of buckets thrown into.
.Paratroops Participants are to throw the paratroop-figurine (something with parachute on it) to land on a board consisting of regions of different points.
.“Where is…? “ Uh, I don’t know what it’s called in Singapore... But the game is played by counting how many peoples of certain characteristics are (e.g. those wearing cap, those who are males) in the picture displayed to them. Points will be awarded based on proximity of the answer to the correct value (e.g. if less than 50% of correct value, only award particular point, or if within 50 to 80%, award them certain higher point).
